What’s new?

In all honesty, I haven’t been working on anything at all. I haven’t even been developing any projects. I’ve written a couple ideas down these last couple months, but that’s about it. With graduation drawing near, my sister getting married right before Christmas, and the need to upgrade my hardware to be able to produce anything in a decent timeframs, I’m kind of just a lame duck until January when A) Christmas/Holidays are over 2) The sister is married C) This semester is over.

Hopefully (hope hope hope), when I get the new computer at the beginning of the year, I can start whipping some stuff out… but until then….. zilch.

Not quite on track

Posted on June 29, 2007. Filed under: art, ideas, internship, school, summer, video |

I thought that once school let out, finals were over, and I had a break from working everyday that I would jump right into work on the two projects that I had planned to do this summer. I was wrong, dead wrong.

Instead I sleep in. I go to internship. I do chores. I job hunt. I bug my sister about giving me the DV tape she owes (because I’m broke and out of tape).

So now that I am working again and I have finally received the tapes from my sister, I feel I can actually start recording and continue collecting more source things. Can I Tell You A Joke is extremely simple and I can start whenever, but Confessions of a Blogger requires more research and a little bit of writing. It’s funny because Joke requires the participation of strangers, which I’m not totally ecstatic about; but Confessions only requires myself in the privacy of my own home so I could get started whenever… Just have to get to it.

Otherwise, I’m really ready to graduate. I’m sort of just tired of school and when I found out last week that I passed the upper division writing skills test required for graduation, I was even more ready to go because that means I don’t have to take a make-up class this fall and write five extra papers.

I’m still not sure what kind of employment I will get after I graduate. It’d be great to get a paid gig at my internship because it’s a really great atmosphere and it’s just two blocks away from the Embarcadero to boot; but they’re a sub-group of a non-profit so maybe chances are slim, who knows?

I guess for now I’ll scope out the job market on Craigslist and hope for the best come graduation.

Another Project To Develop

Posted on April 26, 2007. Filed under: art, ideas, performance, project, video |

I had an epiphany of an idea. Blogs. I’m amazed at how people are so ready and willing to post their life’s happenings on a public forum for any stranger to read. For young adults, I think it may have something to do with a study I saw on the news about twenty-somethings and the rise of narcissism. That doesn’t fully explain the popularity of blogging, but it does provide a platform to start from.

So my idea is to find personal blogs and perform or act them out in front of a camera. I’m still considering whether or not I should fully dive in and dress the part and make it seem like I’m in a confessional, or if I should just be me for all the blog entries.

The purpose I’m going after, I feel, is to look at the comfort people feel in posting their lives before complete strangers, but walking up to a person on the street and telling them what happened on your family vacation or that you despise your dad is absolutely out of the question. Also, it doesn’t seem to bother folks to read all about a stranger’s life. Is it then, okay, to see someone talk about their life on camera? That may add an element of “reality” TV to it, but more inwardly focused.

I’m really excited to work on this because I won’t need any assistance and production can go by quickly.
