I gotta do what it takes…

Posted on April 29, 2007. Filed under: art, awards, problem, school, video |

There’s an award being given out in my department and I feel like I have a really good chance because Conceptual and Information Arts at SFSU is a really small department and the number of seniors eligible to apply for the award is even smaller, so I feel my chances of winning are really good.

The only thing is, the deadline to apply is this Tuesday and I have to submit a Proposal, a copy of my work, and a Curriculum Vitae. I just hate having to write resumes and anything resembling them, including CVs. They always make me feel like I don’t have that much experience and that someone else is better than me or has more skills. I feel like I have at least a 10% chance of winning because of the small size of my department……. I guess I just gotta do what I gotta do because I really really REALLY could use the money.

Another Project To Develop

Posted on April 26, 2007. Filed under: art, ideas, performance, project, video |

I had an epiphany of an idea. Blogs. I’m amazed at how people are so ready and willing to post their life’s happenings on a public forum for any stranger to read. For young adults, I think it may have something to do with a study I saw on the news about twenty-somethings and the rise of narcissism. That doesn’t fully explain the popularity of blogging, but it does provide a platform to start from.

So my idea is to find personal blogs and perform or act them out in front of a camera. I’m still considering whether or not I should fully dive in and dress the part and make it seem like I’m in a confessional, or if I should just be me for all the blog entries.

The purpose I’m going after, I feel, is to look at the comfort people feel in posting their lives before complete strangers, but walking up to a person on the street and telling them what happened on your family vacation or that you despise your dad is absolutely out of the question. Also, it doesn’t seem to bother folks to read all about a stranger’s life. Is it then, okay, to see someone talk about their life on camera? That may add an element of “reality” TV to it, but more inwardly focused.

I’m really excited to work on this because I won’t need any assistance and production can go by quickly.

Menstruation. and Senior Show

Posted on April 24, 2007. Filed under: art, menstruation, video |

I am proud of myself. When I first began developing “Menstruation.” about 3 months ago, I envisioned it as a 2-channel installation type of piece and over time it turned into something else. I’m okay with that, I like what turned out.

While I would really love to develop it more, collecting more interviews to get a more diverse range of attitudes and opinions, for now I feel that I can be proud of it. Maybe I can submit is to art shows and exhibits, who knows?
